International Organisation for Migration (IOM) is appealing for US$177 million to address the
vital needs of migrants and internally displaced victims of conflict and natural
disasters around the world. The call for funding is part of the United Nations
Consolidated Appeals Process (CAP) - a process designed to ensure all needs and
requirements are fully coordinated with humanitarian partners. IOM responds to
humanitarian crises, whether natural or man‐made, by providing transportation to those in need,
including extremely vulnerable people and third-country nationals. It also provides transitional shelter,
non-food relief items, health and livelihood assistance, and serves the lead
agency for camp coordination and camp management (CCCM) in natural disasters. In
the aftermath of crises, IOM helps strengthen governments' capacity to tackle
migration‐related
issues that often arise from emergency situations, such as human trafficking
and irregular migration. The IOM appeal for US$ 177 million is part of the
annual mid-year review of all humanitarian appeals organized and led by the
United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Activities (UN OHCA)
in New York. The funding will go towards humanitarian assistance projects in 16
countries including Afghanistan, Chad, Côte d'Ivoire, Democratic Republic of
Congo, Djibouti, Haiti, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Niger, Philippines, Somalia,
South Sudan, Sudan, Yemen and Zimbabwe.
